Kitten is an alternative name usually for the young of cat, rabbit, hedgehog or squirrel that is not yet fully-grown. The young of cats are born after a gestation with an average length of 66 days. For the first three weeks, they are unable to regulate their body temperature, so kittens born in temperatures less than 27°C can die from exposure if they are not kept warm by their mother.
